Standards Based Grading workshops – Register below

We have heard from many of you that there is a lot of interest in Standards Based Grading, as it is a topic that aligns assessment practices with the student-centered teaching practices that we focus on. So we are planning for a series of Standards Based Grading workshops throughout the school year, with the idea that each will build upon the previous. (If you can’t make one of them, you can catch up!) The idea here is to help teachers grow and prepare over the course of the year, not just a one-and-done session.

February 5th, 2022 (Brecksville-Broadview Heights Middle School)

Teaching Forces for Physical Science and PhysicsRegister

Kelly Kroesen, Keiry Franklin & Larissa VanDerMolen (Brecksville-Broadview Heights Middle School); Molly Sauder (Twinsburg High School)

This is an in-person event in a well-ventilated room. Face masks are required.

Teaching students how to think about forces in middle school is hard; making sure the thinking they do in middle school helps them when they get to more advanced classes is even harder. This exciting and hands-on workshop will focus on helping students develop a working model for the idea of a force.  The activities and curricular resources shared will elicit student investigation through inquiry and discovery aligned to Ohio state science standards.  Discussions of the vertical alignment between 8th grade, Physical Science, and Physics standards will help participants use best practices as designing lessons and prepare students for the 8th grade science OST.

The target audience will be 8th-9th grade physical science and physics teachers (higher or lower grade level physical science/physics teachers also absolutely welcome). Participants will walk away with materials used in the workshop.
